Foreigners getting married in South Africa

Wonderful news — it’s easy for foreigners to get married in South Africa.

South Africa is a beautiful country with a lot to offer couples looking to get married.  The process of getting married in South Africa as a foreigner is relatively simple, here is some guidance

Both Foreigners.
If you and your partner are both foreign nationals, all you need to do is come visit our beautiful country as you both need to be present. To do so, you’ll need a passport that is still valid and stamped with your entry visa as well as a letter from your home country stating that there are no obstacles to your relationship.  A letter of Non-Impediment or Single status is what this letter is called.
You can still do vows and exchange rings to further personalize this occasion for the two of you. You will sign the marriage register.  Your Marriage officer files your marriage registration with Home Affairs on your behalf, and some Marriage officers can assist you in applying for your international certificate or Unabridged Marriage certificate. This can be couriered anywhere in the world.

South African and a Foreigner.
This procedure is a little more difficult because you both need to appear for an immigration interview at Home Affairs.

The following papers are required for the immigration interview:
Citizen of SA: – copy of ID

                       – if previously married, proof of final divorce decree or death certificate

Non-SA:  – Copy of your Passport

               – Copies of the visa page and passport (the page with the stamp proving legal entry into                     the country)

               – Police clearance from your country of origin

               – Letter of no-impediment from your country of origin, known as a single status document

               – Commonwealth nations, require a letter declaring that they do not provide this letter, as well as an affidavit stating the person is not married.

               – A copy of the death certificate or, if they were previously married, the final divorce decree

If the interview goes well, I can then legally wed you and register your union with the Department of Home Affairs. You can still exchange vows and rings to make this special day even more unique for you two. You will sign the marriage register.  Your Marriage officer files your marriage registration with Home Affairs on your behalf, and some Marriage officers can assist you in applying for your international certificate or Unabridged Marriage certificate. This can be couriered anywhere in the world.
